Just as each abstract, animal, nature or person is unique and tells a story, so does Karen's work. With every brushstroke, swipe of the palette knife or whatever medium used - her skill comes to life. Each new work by Karen brings gives viewers insight into her larger-than-life perspective which is why it's no surprise that she continues to have remarkable success exhibiting shows all across the US and winning awards recognizing her talent.
Artist Statement: In my artistic journey, I have always been captivated by the themes of balance and harmony, two principles that deeply influence my life and my creative process. The pieces I am presenting, "YING YANG" and "WATERFALL," embody these concepts in distinct yet connected ways.
"YING YANG" is a glass mosaic that explores the idea of perfect balance. I created the iconic yin-yang symbol using square-shaped glass tiles, demonstrating how a circle can harmoniously fit within a square. This juxtaposition of shapes and the interplay of light and shadow through the glass tiles represent the coexistence of opposing forces and how they complement each other to create unity. The contrasting colors and textures draw the viewer into a contemplative state, inviting them to find balance.
"WATERFALL," an abstract acrylic painting, delves into the natural convergence of elements. With purples and browns forming the background, the white and blue hues cascade down the canvas, symbolizing the meeting of opposites. This piece captures the fluidity and dynamism of water, a metaphor for life's constant flow and the merging of diverse experiences. The colors work in tandem to evoke a sense of tranquility and cohesion, mirroring the theme of confluence.
Through these works, I aim to convey the beauty of unity and the peace that arises from equilibrium. "Confluence" is the seamless blending of distinct elements to form a harmonious whole, a principle that resonates deeply within my art and my life.
