Artist Bio: Robin lives in Los Angeles. She is born and raised in Los Angeles, Echo Park to be specific. She draws much of her inspiration from the sights and sounds around her. Art and traveling are how she mostly spends her time. Much of her artwork is motivated and inspired by her experiences in life. She is mostly a self taught artist and is always experimenting with different medium. Her intuitive and emotional spirit often comes through in her work. Robin is a member of the Arroyo Arts Collective and a member Women’s Caucus for Art, the Los Angeles chapter, Southern California Women’s Caucus for Art.

Artist Statement: I recently returned from a trip to Kashmir, India. I took with me a sketchbook and gel pens of many colors. I had never really drawn with gel pens, but I wanted to take materials that could travel well. I usually take watercolor painting supplies. I like to try out new materials and new techniques. I discovered that gel pens were more versatile than I had thought. I could draw a single line or I could draw multiple lines showing shape, form, shadows and variation on color. Gel pens were a good way for me to depict the coming together of not only color and technique but while drawing I started noticing commonalities between my life in Los Angeles and my experiences in Kashmir. The most striking example was while I was visiting a family and the grandmother began serving tea from a samovar. The word samovar fell out of my mouth when I saw her carrying it into the room. My family of Ukrainian decent has a samovar but I never expected to see one being used in Kashmir. Turns out that samovars are used in Russia, Ukraine and Kashmir!
