"Salvage Beauty, 2024" by Serafina Kenwood
Salvage Beauty, 2024. Toilet paper rolls, 5’, 4” X 30”. $4000
I constructed a replica of an Alexander McQueen dress (voss II) (razor clam shell dress) out of toilet paper rolls. It is wearable as well. It is shown here at a Cardboard City exhibit.
Bio: Serafina is a freelance designer, wardrobe stylist, costumer and visual arts educator. She was born and raised in New York where she earned a BFA in Costume Design at SUNY Purchase and a master’s in art and education from Columbia University. Before moving to LA Serafina created costume crafts and ran wardrobe for Broadway, off Broadway, and was Asst. Costume Coordinator for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. She currently designs, constructs and styles costumes for: dance, music videos, theater, short films, photo shoots and documentaries. Serafina‘s artistic inspiration comes from the beauty of organic texture, tons of research, fashion magazines, personal “looking” field trips, exhibits, museums and any unconventional materials. Her paper fashion started during lockdown where she made a Victorian Wedding dress out of only white papers available at her home including vintage wallpaper, paper doilies for lace, napkins, drawing paper, paper table cloths, quilting strips, toilet paper and gift tissue.
