Statement: Sara’s Orchids is a garment designed experimentally using recycled shower curtain, assorted dried flowers, thread, and jump rings. The piece was created to exemplify the deterioration of femininity under the patriarchal gaze. Each flower has been encased within the plastic, stifling its growth. The garment is meant to be worn by a woman as her armor. The chest plate of the garment protects the heart of whoever wears it so that growth is not stifled, and the woman can explore herself and life.
