"The Calleach brings winter thru the Samhain fires, 2023" by Lisa Tomczeszyn
The Calleach brings winter thru the Samhain fires, 2023. Watercolor with metal leaf on paper mounted on wood, 16” x 12”. $350
The Cailleach is said to have the power to create storms, cold weather, and shape the landscape. She can also freeze the earth by tapping it with her staff of power, and cause water to spring forth by plunging her staff into the ground. The Calleach is the bringer of winter, weather witch, goddess of destruction, and goddess of creation.
Statement: The Goddess series started in September of 2022. Seeking to connect with the Welsh ancestry lineage of my great grandmother Mary Francis Winston, I began to research Druidic and Briton Celtic goddesses. The Goddess series juxtaposes my color field landscapes as the backdrop to figuratively explore constellations and myth. In this time of ecological uncertainty - these works are meditations on the “old ways”.
