"Wrath, 2012" by A. Laura Brody
Wrath, 2012. Repurposed textiles, notions, and hardware, 50” x 25” x 20”. $950
Statement: From the Seven Deadly Sins fashion show originally shown at the Majestical Roof in Pasadena. Wrath is formed from repurposed housewares, used hardware and notions, and remnants left over from Shakespearean costuming and cosplay. It is part of a deconstructed series of clothing that accents seaming instead of disguising it. The patterns from this series were created by staple draping, where staples are used instead of pins to draft a rough shape for the garment.
Bio: Laura Brody sculpts for the human body and its vehicles. She is the founder of Opulent Mobility, a series of exhibits that re-imagine disability as opulent and powerful. She is also the host of Genius Teatime, a series of talks that explore fascinating folks from all walks of life. Recently her curatorial work expanded with exhibits on the Goddess in all her forms, commentary on the Plague, and wearable art. Ms. Brody is a skilled and innovative artist, curator, and educator who re-imagines disability as something to celebrate, not fear. Along with her disability arts community she builds opportunities and starts genuine conversations about diversity, access, and inclusion.
